POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS
In 2006, the Defenders Action Fund gave the environmental movement its biggest electoral victory ever, with the defeat of the supposedly unbeatable Rep. Richard Pombo (CA-11), the then 14-year incumbent and chair of the House Resources Committee.
In 2008, we built on this success, running several integrated, independent expenditure congressional campaigns where we successfully replaced staunch anti-conservation members of Congress with new pro-conservation members. We also played a big part in the presidential race, running TV ads in swing states, highlighting Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s anti-wildlife agenda.
